CCIR signs Memorandum of Cooperation with Panama Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture

Panama City, March 3, 2025: Within the framework of the economic mission in Central America, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Panama Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture.

The document, signed by the representatives of the two chambers, Mr. Mihai Daraban, President of the CCIR, and Mr. Juan A. Arias, President of the Panama Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, in the presence of the Romanian Ambassador to Colombia, Mr. Manuel Pleșa, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Panama, Mr. Carlos Ruiz Hernandez, provides for the consolidation of business relations and the development of the economic component between the two states, while also establishing the guidelines that the business environments of Romania and the Republic of Panama can follow to facilitate bilateral trade.

The President of the CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban, stated that “the signing of this memorandum is a natural consequence of the discussions held with the Panamanian side, in which industries with high development potential were identified, in which the Romanian business environment can successfully get involved. Thus, the energy industry, the transport industry, which includes maritime and railway transport, the civil construction and infrastructure industry, the IT industry, the aeronautical and defense industry and last but not least the tourism industry, represent real business opportunities for the Romanian business environment. The general framework provided in the document that we signed today with our Panamanian counterparts is a very important instrument that can be used to boost the dialogue between the business environments of the two states. The Romanian companies, present at this economic mission, are already enjoying special attention from the Panamanian business people, as there is a common interest in developing large-scale projects”.

The President of the Panama Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, Mr. Juan A. Arias, appreciated the fact that “after several years, in which Romanian companies had an insignificant presence on the markets of Central and South America, the economic mission organized by CCIR represents a new beginning in terms of economic collaboration between the two states. Romania and Panama, states with a strong port industry, can become relevant commercial hubs for Europe and Latin America”.
